Your therapist can't read your mind — and you shouldn't have to guess. A short guide to speaking up before and during a session.
Your therapist can't read your mind, and you shouldn't have to guess. Speaking up about pressure and comfort is one of the simplest ways to get more out of a session.
Before the session
When you book and again before the session begins, share what you're looking for. Mention areas you'd like focused on, areas to avoid, and a general sense of the pressure you prefer. If you're not sure, that's a fine answer too — you can adjust as you go.
During the session
It's always okay to ask for more or less pressure, to pause, or to shift position. A good session is a conversation, not a performance. Communication is encouraged throughout.
Why it matters
Every body is different, and what feels right can change from one session to the next. The more openly you communicate, the more the session can be shaped around you.
